Ashley Kim
is a Korean-Canadian director, writer, and 1st AC. A graduate of NYU Tisch's Film & TV BFA program, her work tells personal, mundane stories in close-up, empathetic new light. She is fascinated by character work, family and interpersonal relationships, and birds. She loves the unloved, seeks the boring subjects. Her prior visual arts background and interest in prose writing influences her choices when it comes to meaningful compositions and blocking in her films.
Her latest short
film, "Cockroach", screened at multiple festivals including NFFTY, and was recipient of the Best Youth International Short award
at the 2025 Astoria Youth Film Festival. Her written work has been
selected for the Editor's Award in Prose in the 2024 edition of the West
10th magazine. She is currently in post-production for her proof-of-concept, “Clementine Farm”.
